2 Local Firefighters are due to take on the Wild Atlantic in one of "THE WORLDS TOUGHEST ROWING RACES"...a challenge comparable to scaling the Mighty Everest or trekking to the North Pole, this race will put the boys through their paces, testing both their physical and mental stamina. Michael Arnold a keen surfer and experienced Fire Fighter is part of the 2 man team, so hopefully all those years of paddling out at Llangennith in February will have put him in good stead for the mammoth challenge ahead. Their chosen charities are Tenovus and the Fire Service Charity, their target is £30,000. Just think of this for a moment, whilst you are tucking into your cosy Crhistmas Dinner these boys will be charging their way across the Atlantic, as part of "The Woodvale Challenge Atlantic Rowing Race 2009". |

ARTICLE TAKEN FROM SURFERS PATH This is a seriously useful site for figuring out which sunscreen is likely to protect you and which might actually cause you harm. The Environmental Working Group is a non-profit, non-partisan research organization that performs studies on products to see how they affect consumers and the environment. According to their Cosmetic Database Sunscreen Report, “An investigation of nearly 1,000 brand-name sunscreen products finds that 4 out of 5 contain chemicals that may pose health hazards or don’t adequately protect skin from the sun’s damaging rays. Some of the worst offenders are leading brands like Coppertone, Banana Boat, and Neutrogena.” The top brand, deemed to pose no risk to the user and which worked best, was Soléo Organics All Natural Sunscreen. Congratulations to them. I’ll be putting in my order right away. Check out the EWG study and see if your sunscreen is safe: http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/special/sunscreens2008/findyoursunscreen.php |

Open and Women’s titles head to Swansea………
Swansea’s Lloyd Cole and Beth Mason both took home their respective titles in this year’s QUIKSILVER Welsh Nationals. In the Women’s final Beth Mason lead the way and surfed some critical lefthanders to take the title. In the Open, Lloyd’s surfing had flowed throughout the event and this continued in the final with him nailing two big scores making the Open title his for the 3rd time. After last year’s amazing weather and waves all at WSF headquarters were bracing themselves this year for a weekend of howling onshore gales and rain. Surely we had cashed in ‘luck’ vouchers last year …. hadn’t we? Maybe not... |
|
...someone had had a word with somebody somewhere because once again forecasts for both weather and waves looked fantastic …. well, at least for Saturday and Sunday… ! |

Well it looks like the BSA have forgotten all about the poor old clubs and have not given a date for the British Interclubs this year, so for now it looks like it could well be next year with the current winners Newquay likely hosts. Meanwhile we hope to arrange a comp sometime soon to keep everyone frothing, watch this space! |

Walking Ghosts: Dean "Dingo" Morrison and cronies escape Certain Death So what does a pro surfer get up to when he has an enforced 3 month lay-up following a hip operation? You grab a bunch of your craziest mates, buy a new boat, fill it up with fishing tackle and cases of beer, tow the whole act 2,000kms north and head out into the wild blue yonder. Dean Morrison’s fishing vacation with Dean & Sean Harrington, Paul Fisher and another young madman was always a disaster waiting to happen, but little did any of them realize it would be over before the first day was out. |

The event took place for the first in many years with a fun yet highly competitive vibe with the winner taking bragging rights as Wales's Number One Surf Club! Commencing just as the last rain shower of the day passed in a cold on-shore breeze the messy 3ft waves made for a contestable if not ideal platform for the surfers from all clubs to showcase their skills.
